The first world war lasted 4 years, and was war of attrition. There was little movement and the goal was to wear down the enemy. The conditions of the war were terrible and many men died from diseases and sicknesses, it isn't glorified and everyone was hoping for an end to come.
The hundred days battle began August 8th, 1918. It began with the Battle of Amiens which was a 4 day battle. This was the worst battle Germany ever fought and they surrendered immediately.
WW1 officially ended on the 11th of November, 1918, and some people died minutes before the war ended.
In the spring of 1919 the countries that were involved in the first world war negotiated a peace treaty to end WW1.
The negotiations were very harsh towards Germany, so harsh Hitler would use it as a reason to start WW2.
They had to pay for all the damages, and didn't pay off their debt until the 2000s.
They also lost territory, weren't allowed an air force, colonies or u- boats, and their army was reduced to 100 000. Germany was also forced to accept full responsibility for the war, and they had no choice but to sign the treaty or they would have to go back to war.
Soldiers that made it would go back to their homes to their friends and families.
Women would often go back to home cleaning, cooking and farming rather than working like they had been for the last few years. This caused some dilemmas as not all women were wanting to leave their jobs, and there also weren't enough jobs for all the soldiers who were demanding they have them back.
