Halloween is a holiday that's been going on for the past 2000 years, with many different Halloween traditions. Its celebrated on the 31 of October and is commonly celebrated by dressing up and going door to door asking for candy.
Dressing up on Halloween to most people seems normal, but its actually quite weird if you think about it. Around 600-800 B.C, Halloween was a day when all the spirits that recently died could re-enter the bodies of the living people, for a chance at an afterlife. People would dress up in fear of their souls, but now its seen as a regular thing.
However, although kids love this holiday there is some controversy. Some parents believe Halloween sets a bad example for kids. Although younger children usually choose the treat over a trick, older kids and teenagers sometimes will choose to pull a prank. Things like throwing eggs at houses or toilet paper in yards aren't uncommon on Halloween and days leading up to it. Some parents believe that the actions of these teenagers will rub off on the kids.
There's also the obvious argument that kids are going to strangers houses, sometimes alone and asking for candy from someone they've never met before. There have been multiple cases where kids that have gone trick or treating have been kidnapped, raped or killed. Even if these incidents don't happen on the night of Halloween, its teaching kids that its ok to trust all strangers. You're told your whole life not to take candy from strangers, and then there's a holiday to celebrate it.
There are many reasons for and against Halloween but I don't think that a few people not liking the idea could end the holiday altogether. Happy Halloween everyone.
